Do you ever find yourself wondering how the year has passed by in the blink of an eye? Or, looking back and reflecting upon what could have been different? The end of a year is usually associated with saying goodbye to a bunch of memories, and embracing the beginning for many.

As we rush through life and its demands, pausing for a moment to look back and to reflect can bring us immense inner peace and calmness. It helps us look at life in its entirety rather than tending to focus on the negatives or what didn't go right.

With each passing year, we attempt to move towards the kind of life we have desired for ourselves. Let us take a pause here to quickly think of what our best possible self in the future would look like, where things have gone as well as possible, and we have accomplished all our goals.

Using this worksheet, we will think ONLY about the past year to identify ways in which we may have taken small steps towards that best possible self:

AT WORK

What did you achieve? Please write them down, even if they seem minor or irrelevant.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________

_______________________________________________________________________________________________
(e.g., mastering a software, building good relations at work, helping a colleague, delivering a project)

Things I want to work on or improve:
_______________________________________________________________________________________________

_______________________________________________________________________________________________
(e.g., organise my day better, delegate some tasks, take breaks, complete tasks on schedule, network more)

AT HOME

How have you grown? Are there any lessons you may have learnt?
_______________________________________________________________________________________________

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

(e.g., cared for the family well, ensured that everyone’s needs are provided for, took up newer roles and responsibilities, created boundaries)

Areas you want to strengthen or enrich:

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

_______________________________________________________________________________________________
(e.g., spend more time and patiently interact with family; do more “fun” things, be less critical, take a vacation or break with family)

SOCIALLY

The relationships and people you were happy to spend time with:

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

(e.g., a new colleague at work, a cousin, friends, a neighbour, etc.)

How else would you like to contribute to your social relationships moving forward?

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

_____________________________________________________________________________________________
(e.g., initiate plans with friends, attend family gatherings, join a team sport, support someone going through a tough time)

FOR MYSELF

Things you were grateful for:

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

(e.g., exercising regularly, joining a club and expanding my network of friends, enjoying sunsets every evening, prioritising self-care)

One thing you would tell/one advice you would give yourself from one year ago:

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

Recognising our successes and achievements in the past encourages us as we look forward to implementing change in the future. This worksheet can be used periodically to ensure that we are looking at our life like the whole sky rather than focusing only on a few bright stars. These reminders help us move forward with more positivity and self-confidence.

It CAN be done. Have a good year!
