When we think of moving on, we think of growth, change, and a general orientation towards the future. While these might sound like desirable things to us, there is a reluctance that we all might have faced to get past something, and abide to the golden words, LET GO...

What about those challenging episodes have managed to keep us so hooked to them...
Is it about the comfort we felt being in that phase of life?
Is it about the goals that we had implicitly associated to a person or phase that went unfulfilled? Or,
Is it that we just got accustomed to the way life was back then?

Either way, there comes a point when we're all able to make our choice - a choice to remain, or to flow. In this article, you will see a few ideas that could help you as you try shifting focus forward.

The Effort-Result Ratio

Some valuable resources you're able to offer in terms of your time, energy, emotion, and thought are being invested in a cause that seems to be at a standstill. Naturally, you notice the gaping bridge between how much you're willing to put in, and how little it's benefiting you. This could be exhausting!

The Giant Wheel of Constancy

This is something you might have felt if you've been latched on to a painful experience for a while. You may have noticed that there are different ways you feel about the experience at different times. And after all that movement, the highs and lows, you look around to notice you're still back where you started. Time flies, while the giant wheel lags...

Hopes for Yesterday

We define hope as a desire for something that is yet to happen. And the fact that we're equating hope with what might have already passed, could explain why we're still feeling stuck - almost like a long-standing tug of war.

Deciding to move on from something could be hard, demanding reason each time we decide to take a step. At such a time, it might be useful to answer these questions for ourselves:

How would you define moving on? What would be different from what's happening now?

What are the ways in which moving on can help you?

What are some of the strengths and challenges that you might find on your way?

Are you ready to embark on your journey just as yet?

If you would like to discuss this further or need some help or support in this or any other areas, our counsellors would be happy to help.
