Easy to do activities for your children as they explore their creativity. Children learn how to think out of the box to make simple patterns and fun craft.

Potato Printing

Materials:
Potato
Knife
Paint (water colour or poster paint)
Sponge
Plate or flat container
Paper

Method:

Cut the potato in half. Scratch a simple shape ( like a star, heart or any geometric shape) on the potato and cut out around it so that the shape stands out. Older children could do this on their own.
Place the sponge on the plate and pour on some paint mixed with a little water.
The child presses the potato into the sponge, then prints firmly onto paper.
Use this method to make greeting cards or gift wrapping paper.

Variations: A variety of other vegetables could be used, like ladies finger (bhindi), onion, lemon etc. Just slice in half and use to print.

Cottonbud Painting

Materials:
Paints
Small containers
Cottonbuds
Paper

Method:
Mix a different colour of paint with water in each container.
The child uses cotton buds like paintbrushes, replacing them in containers after painting.
The cottonbuds produce unusual effects, and the 'disposable brushes' can just be thrown away afterwards!

Variation: Cut a sponge into small pieces and use these as brushes.
Make sure the paint solution is not too thin.

Crayon Resist

Materials:
Crayons
Paints
Sponge or thick paintbrush
Paper

Method:
Use light crayons to draw a picture on the paper. Fill in the outline, pressing the crayons hard.
Mix dark blue or black paint with water. Brush paint over the entire picture using the sponge or paintbrush. The crayon drawing will stand out dramatically because of its water resistant effect.
