For children, the world revolves around 'me'. Children gradually incorporate aspects into their self image through their developing understanding of how others see them and grow into their own unique identities. Below are certain activities that your children can use to begin describing themselves.
Paper plate face
What you need
Crayons/Markers
Yarn
Paper Plates
Various Collage Material of Your choosing
What you do
Have your children look in mirror and create their face on a paper plate.

What you do
Ask your child to lie down on a huge piece of paper, trace and cut their figure out. Let them go through magazines and cut out things that they like. They can then paste them on the cut out and you have a collage of the child.
All about me week book
You can make an 'all about me book' with your child. They can do one page a day of the following activities over a week, and in the end you could get combine the pages to make a booklet; either bind it together, staple it or punch holes and string it together.
Day 1: A self portrait
Day 2: Put blue and green fingerprints in a circle. Inside the circle write "my fingerprints are different from everyone's in the whole wide world."
Day 3: My favorite color, make a collage of magazine clippings of your favorite colors.
Day 4: Put the child's handprint on a piece of paper, write the words to "I Am Special" on the page.
Day 5: Write how old the child is, how tall the child is, and how much they weigh, on a piece of paper.
My paper bag house
What you need
Paper bags
Crayons/markers
Paper
Glue
What you do
Have the children create their house using a paper bag. They can draw windows, doors, and a garden. They can even make a roof out of the paper.
Smiley face necklaces
What you need
Paper
Crayons/markers
Noodles
Yarn
Glue
What you do
Cut out circle shapes from many different colors of paper. Encourage your child/ children to draw a face on a circle. Punch two holes near the top of the circle. Supply the children with yarn and let them string their smiley faces to make a necklace.
Such activities help children get an idea about their own personal likes and dislikes, their abilities and interests, which in turn will help them gain a sense of achievement and confidence in themselves. A child who is hesitant about his or her own abilities can develop a low sense of self-concept.
You can also help your child talk about how they felt doing the activity, help them to interpret the final outcome, reinforce the good work that they have done. You can ask reflective questions about his/her ideas or projects rather than comment on them. Questions like "What parts of that did you enjoy the most?" or (asked in a non-threatening way) "Why did you decide to do it that way?" indicate your attention and interest. Healthy self-esteem comes when a good balance is maintained between achievement and being loved
