Waist to Hip Ratio Calculator

The circumference of the waist to that of the hip is the waist to hip ratio (WHR).

The WHR is used to measure the risk of developing health conditions and also measure the health of a person. Research shows the people who carry more weight around the waist (apple shaped bodies) are at higher health risk than the people who carry more weight around the hips (pear shaped bodies).

Where to measure

Waist : While standing, measure your waist at the narrowest point which is usually just above your navel.

Hip : While standing, measure your hips at the widest portion.

Guidelines to consider while measuring waist and hip circumference
  • The tape should snug around the body and make sure it should not be pulled too tight. It should be at a level parallel to the floor.
  • While measuring stand with arms at the sides, feet positioned closed together.
  • Be relaxed and breathe out while taking the measurements.
  • It is efficient to take the measurements in the early morning or on empty stomach as it improves the accuracy of the waist measurements
